Federico Reuben was joined by Rachel Musson (sax) and Mark Sanders (drums) for a fiery improvisation concert at the York Spring Festival 2016, University of York. You can enjoy the video of the full concert here.
Rachel Musson is a saxophonist, improviser and composer living in London, UK. She is involved with a variety of improvisation projects, including a trio with Hannah Marshall and Julie Kjaer, a duo with vibraphonist Corey Mwamba, and a trio with Mark Sanders and John Edwards. She has released two albums under her own name, one featuring Liam Noble and Mark Sanders (Tatterdemalion, Babel Records), and one featuring her ensemble Skein (Flight Line, F-ire Recorded Music). She also plays with the London Improvisers Orchestra and Alex Ward’s Quintet and Sextet, as well as with a variety of other musicians on the fluid European improvising scene.
Federico Reuben is a composer, sound artist and live electronics performer based in York. His practice as a live electronics performer and laptop improviser involves deriving and stealing sound in real-time to create détournedmusical performances. He improvises using live coding techniques, allowing for a type of computer performance that is modular, generative, intuitive and based on adaptation and exchange. As a laptop improviser he has played with improvisers such as Phil Minton, John Edwards, Tony Marsh, Steve Noble, Ingrid Laubrock, Alexander Hawkins, the London Improvisers Orchestra, Dominic Lash, Javier Carmona and Aleks Kolkowski. He likes to use SuperCollider for his live performances.
Mark Sanders has been acclaimed as ‘the most exciting, original and overwhelmingly powerful drummer alive’ (Steve Reynolds, Jazz Corner) and his precise and propulsive drumming has graced projects with, to name but a few, Evan Parker, Jah Wobble, Broadcast, Agusti Fernandez, Christian Marclay, Matthew Shipp, John Butcher, Roswell Rudd, Henry Grimes and Otomo Yoshihide.
‘ubiquitous, diverse and constantly creative, drummer Mark Sanders always outdoes himself, whether playing with restraint or erupting like a dynamo.’
