About Us
squib-box is an artist collective and netlabel dedicated to the production and dissemination of radical and avant-garde music, regardless of its genre.
Founded in 2010 by Adam de la Cour, Neil Luck and Federico Reuben, squib-box has organized and performed at live events around the UK, with a variety of leading musicians, artists and performers from a range of disciplines.
As a netlabel squib-box is committed to producing quality recordings of radical and experimental music. squib-box’s recorded releases are divided into three main streams: squib-cake (experimental, but more pop-orientated music), squib-mongrel (uncategorisable, inbetween genres or practices) and squib-toxic (more unorthodox or ‘out-there’ projects). The idea of having three types of releases comes from an awareness that music can be appreciated and enjoyed according to very different criteria and at the same time can still be uncompromising and thought provoking. Our hope is that people who listen to the more pop-oriented music will also become curious about the more unorthodox releases and vise-versa.
squib-box has worked with artists and performers such as Loré Lixenberg, Mark Knoop, Carl Rosman, Bruce McLean, Sam Belinfante, Rebecca Birch, Javier Carmona, Dominic Lash, Alexander Hawkins, Fiona Bevan, Jo Thomas, Ingrid Laubrock, boyleANDshaw and Steve Noble, and has shown work or put on events at the ICA, The Chelsea Space, Modern Art Oxford, Schott Music Rooms, Milton Keynes Art Gallery, Handel House, Testbed and Cafe Oto.
